Japanese Film Festival in China
Chinese Film Festival In Japan
The Japan Foundation will commemorate this year’s 45th anniversary to mark the normalization of diplomatic ties by co-hosting with UNIJAPAN (Tokyo International Film Festival Secretariat) and Shanghai International Film &TV Festival Co., Ltd. (Shanghai International Film Festival Secretariat) Japanese film screenings in three Chinese cities in December 2017, and Chinese film screenings in three Japanese cities in March 2018, as an exchange program through films by both countries.
In China, nine films from a total of ten will be shown at each venue, including Japanese films that will be shown ahead of their scheduled release dates in 2018, and films that have just opened in Japan in 2017. All films will be shown in Chinese theaters for the first time.
SinceJapanese movies are rarely shown in China, with the exception of large-scale international film festivals, the screening of Japanese films is an important opportunity to convey the attractive qualities of Japan. This commemorative project will focus on movies as an event to deepen the relationship between China and Japan. The project aims to increase fans of Japanese films in China and raise interest in Japanese culture. At the same time, it also aims to enhance the interest in and understanding of Chinese films and culture in Japan.
